Time management is a critical component to successfully achieving an outcome. However, over time “experts” have managed to make time management such a painful exercise that, most people have just decided to wing it and hope for the best.
Hopefully this tutorial will help outline what time management is really about and help you achieve all that you set out to do.
The whole purpose of time management is to facilitate you in getting from where you are to where you want to be. However, for most people time management has become merely a reminder service or a to do list with no clear objective to be achieved. No wonder it is such a problem to be inspired to get things done.
A. Always know where you need to go
The core function of a good time management system is to facilitate your journey from where you are to a desired goal. Now, I’m sure you’ve read enough about goals to understand how important they are and what major changes you can expect once you create a goal list and review them constantly.
B. Always know where you are
Now that you know where you want to go, you need to get very clear as to where you are. A good time management system will allow you to prioritise and strategise the necessary steps which need to be taken and this usually require a starting point. So, a clear idea as to where you are will provide an indication as to the amount of effort, time and resources you will need to achieve your goal.
C. Always know what you need to do
When you know where you are and where you need to go, you will automatically strategise the necessary steps (or action items) to get there. Make sure these steps are clear and achievable. There’s nothing worse than having an unachievable action item. Once you have all your action items, all you need to do is schedule them.
